Jane is missing. Henry is desperate to find her. He has no idea Jane is standing in the middle of Times Square. The place is completely empty which leads us to believe this isn't the "real" Times Square. A handful of people walk by. An elderly woman says, "You shouldn't have come here." The odd thing is that she never opens her mouth. It's as if Jane is reading her mind. Suddenly, Jane is back in the middle of the real Times Square with all of its hustle and bustle. She's reunited with Henry at the hospital after have gone through something that has left her visibly shaken.

The doctor believes Jane is blocking out something traumatic. She needs to stay in the hospital for 48 hours. Jane freaks out when a nurse tries to take her blood pressure as she's having flashbacks about events and people from the past. Henry can only watch helplessly as the woman he loves is sedated. In her hazy state, Jane hears the nurses talking about another patient, Julian Waters, who had a similar freak out episode a month ago. The guy was screaming something about a spiral staircase. He was found wandering the streets just like Jane.

Nona asks Detective Cooper to give Jane an envelope. Inside is her grandmother's necklace. There's also the photo of the young Jane inside. Henry catches Detective Cooper giving Jane a long hug in the hospital. Later, Jane is forced to take some pills by Nurse Potter. This doesn't stop her from sneaking out of her room in a hazy state. She makes her way into the high security wing of the hospital to Julian Waters. The guy claims he came up the spiral staircase in the basement of the Drake. During a second visit, Jane finds Julian hanging by a noose. He opens his eyes. Julian says, "You shouldn't have come here."

Jane draws the bloody images she saw on Julian's walls. She's later sprung from the hospital by Detective Cooper. She finds the ring Henry was going to give her but doesn't let on that she knows he wants to propose. Nona is relieved to see that Jane is back. She thinks a woman named Maris can help her remember what happened when she went down the staircase. The image Jane saw in Julian's room is also present outside this Maris woman's apartment. Jane must meet with her. Alone.

Louise returns home to let Brian know that she wasn't away on a photo shoot. She was in rehab for prescription drugs. She wants to start fresh with no secrets between them. Unfortunately, there is one very big secret being kept. Alexis lets Louise know that she's become involved with a married man. Needless to say, this puts Brian a little on edge. Alexis tells him the universe wants them to be together. She also claims to be the reason why he's suddenly writing up a storm.

After Brian makes it clear he doesn't want anything to do with Alexis, mysterious forces seem to work against him whenever he tries to write. Alexis says he writes when he's with her. He's blocked when he's with Louise. The two of them kiss passionately. Later, Alexis lets Gavin know that she doesn't want to keep doing this to Brian even though she owes him.

Gavin wants his mysterious red box back. That's why Kandinsky is torturing the guy who took it-Victor Shaw. Actually, that's not his real name. Shaw's father's name is Joseph Lukin. Gavin says the guy was willing to do anything to succeed including abandoning his own son. He then learns from Shaw that his daughter, Sasha, killed herself because she found out who her dad really was. Olivia suggests that Gavin fight fire with fire by attacking Shaw with his weakness. They need to do whatever it takes to get back the red box.

Shaw awakens from a hazy state to find his father, Joseph Lukin, sitting before him. It's all an illusion created to get Shaw to reveal the location of the red box. Gavin heads over to the church where it is hidden. The priest there knows what he wants although he thought that Gavin could never enter such a hallowed place. Elsewhere, Shaw drops the bombshell on Olivia that her daughter is still alive. He knows where she is. He'll take Olivia to her. All she has to do is let him go. So she does.
