It's a sunny day, and we're in a scruffy old Volvo with independent, outspoken Kat Stratford at the wheel. She couldn't be less like her sister, super sweet, yet kinda conformist Bianca, who's in the passenger seat. The only things they seem to have in common are being new at school and their overprotective dad.

In fact, Dr. Walter stratford calls to remind them via speakerphone that the most important thing on the first day of school is "don't get pregnant!" Uh, right. Bianca says no way is that happening, because she can't date until Kat does. Pretty smart of dad, since Kat's not interested in dating.

What Bianca's interested in is being popular. In fact, she's done her Facebook research so she can charm the most popular girl in school. Kat's unimpressed, but she's used to it. At school, Bianca gets out early so she can "make an entrance" (and not be seen in the Volvo).

As Kat's car is about to pull away, a motorcycle nearly hits her. It stops, and she comes face-to-face with a mysterious hottie. She just tells him off for speeding. He squints and roars away. Moments later, Kat's about to park when head cheerleader Chastity Church, who wants the same spot, gives her attitude and tells her to go park somewhere else. Kat doesn't take that from anyone. She just smiles her way through a slo-mo fender bender and takes the bumper off Chastity's cute little car. Yow!

In the hallway, tall, geeky Cameron is catching up with short, geeky Michael, when he sees Bianca having trouble opening her locker. Cameron's immediately lovestruck and sees his chance to help. They chat, slightly awkwardly, and as Bianca leaves, he whispers to himself, "I love you."

So Kat's in the principal's office with Chastity, who's claiming a score neck from the "accident." Principal Holland kisses up to Chastity, because her dad's the school board superintendent, and tells KAt to back off. Kat tries to leave in a huff, but motorcycle boy is blocking the door and won't move. Much. His name's Patrick Verona, and he seems to be a regular visitor to the school office. At lunchtime, as Kat befriends shy graffiti artist Mandella, Patrick's sitting nearby and watching. Kat stares him down and drives him away. Mandella's beyond impressed.

At lunch, Cameron wants to talk to Bianca, but before he finds the nerve, she spots Chastity, who's sporting a neck brace. Bianca sprints over and rapid-fire tells her all about herself... repeating the stuff she found on Chasity's Facebook. Charmed by their similarities, Chastity invites her to try out for the squad. She also introduces Bianca to her BF, Joey Donner. Well, he's her BF, but only if he's the starting quarterback. Ouch. BTW, turns out Bianca and Joey are in the same chem class.

But how can geeky Cameron ever talk to Bianca now that she's in with cool kids? Michael proposes they become cool by throwing a party -- "the first rager of the year!" -- at Cameron's, since his rents won't be home that night. They hijack the school TV station to announce it, and get hundreds of RSVP texts.

Bianca and Chastity are mega-bonding after cheerleaders tryouts, and it's great -- she's a lock for the squad! But then Kat pulls up. Soon as Chastity makes the connection, she drops Bianca like a rock. Ouch.

That night, Bianca wants to try to make up with Chastity at Cameron's party, so she blackmails Kat into driving her by threatening to "tell dad you're not a virgin." While Kat waits outside in the car, Patrick shows up again on his bike. Now she's pissed. Kat steps out to confront him a Taser and a bunch of question. It's a charged moment, and after he answers her question with a question, he roars away, leaving her semi-stunned.

Inside, Cameron's following Bianca around as Joey tells Chastity he won't be starting QB after all -- turns out he's more into being a model. Chastity's not impressed. Through a weird twist, Bianca manages to get her idol even more pissed off. She leaves, having accidentally misled both Chastity and Cameron into thinking she's been hitting on Joey in a closet. Her mission? SO not accomplished.

Over toast the next morning, Dr. Stratford expertly guilts Kat into feeling sorry for her sister, who's totally chrushed. So, just as Chastity's preparing to reveal the squad lineup and send Bianca "to social Siberia," Kat and Mandella corner her in the girls' locker room. Kat tells Chastity that she's the new yearbook photo editor, and if her sister isn't on the squad, Chastity can look forward to nothing but terrible photos.

It works, kind os. Chastity lets Bianca -- pretty, cheery Bianca -- be the mascot, Percival the Penguin. It's not ideal (the head smells like armpits), but it's a start. On an unrelated note, Cameron offers to tutor her in French... which would be great. If he could only speak it. But that's a start too.

And as we close the episode, Kat sternly tells Patrick and the breezy blonde on the back of his bike that they "really should be wearing helmets." Oh, and as Kat drives away, Chastity's bumper mysteriously falls off... again.
