Adam 'Nergal' Darski Returns to the Stage Following Operation
Music

Behemoth frontman Adam 'Nergal' Darski has returned to the stage for the first time since undergoing surgery for a bone marrow transplant.

AceShowbiz - The Polish rock band Behemoth scrapped a European and U.S. tour last summer when Adam 'Nergal' Darski was diagnosed with leukemia.

A suitable donor was found within months and he had the life-saving operation at a hospital in Gdansk, Poland but found himself back under doctors' care earlier this year when he contracted an infection.

Darski has been fighting to regain his full health ever since, but he is refusing to let his illness defeat him - on Friday he performed alongside Fields of the Nephilim in Katowice, Poland.

Speaking after the show Darski says, "I don't remember when the last time I was that nervous. First of all, I had to join one of my favorite bands ever, true legends, Fields Of The Nephilim... Secondly, I'm still not 100 per cent in shape so I didn't know how my body would react. I would risk saying I'm maybe 60 per cent of what I used to be... but still progressing!"

The rocker admits he struggled through the show, but he's adamant it was all worth it and he can't wait for the band to make its full live return in October, 2011.

Darski adds, "What a blast, I have to tell you. I had a serious adrenaline rush and it was such a boost of energy I can't even describe. My mouth dried out after 30 seconds so I could hardly breathe but the energy wouldn't let me stop. I was carried away. The moment I saw the crowd, I felt this double-bass pounding underneath my feet... I was in (a) trance. I'm counting (down the) days 'till we come back with Behemoth full-time. Five months to go."
