Blake Shelton in Trouble With Gay Rights Group

May 5, 2011 (6:12 pm) GMT
Country star Blake Shelton has been targeted by a gay rights advocacy group for making an insensitive comment on his Twitter account.
Blake Shelton

paid tribute to 's hit "Any Man of Mine" on Wednesday but took his own creative licensing with the words, sparking controversy for his anti-gay remarks.

He writes, "Re-writing my fav (favorite) Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He's gonna be a beaten, bleedin', heaving kind of guy..."

However, officials at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) organization were not amused.

Upon seeing the tweet, a spokesman responded to the star, "No, Blake Shelton - violent, anti-gay statements are not what a woman wants. Apologies now."

Hours later Shelton, who now stars on the popular U.S. TV talent show "", tried to clarify the comment, writing, "Ba! Ha! Reading all my anti-gay hate tweets... Ha! Ha! If people only knew even a little about me, my family and friends. Dumb a**es..."

The accurate lyrics to the song are, "Any man of mine better walk the line/Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time."

Ironically, Shelton picked an openly gay man to join his team of talents on "" on Tuesday night.
