's police escort to a New Jersey nightclub last week is under investigation after it emerged the move was unauthorized. The rapper was given special treatment by cops at the New York Police Department, who ushered him to hotspot 4Sixty6 in West Orange, New Jersey after he performed at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan on Friday, April 22.

According to reports, Combs had planned to charter a helicopter for the journey but could not get clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration. An NYPD sergeant is believed to have dispatched the escort for Combs, despite not having permission to do so.

And according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, police escorts should only be provided in the event of a "security issue". Bloomberg confirms NYPD officials have launched a probe into the incident, insisting, "The bottom line is, the police department should treat everybody exactly the same. If you don't get a police escort, P. Diddy shouldn't."

"I would assume there was no reason for [the escort], but I just don't know."
