Lindsay Lohan Admits Jail Sentence Was Fair

April 27, 2011 (9:29 am) GMT
The 'Gotti: Three Generations' actress has insisted that she was fairly treated although the sentence shocked her.

has come to terms with her looming 120-day jail term for violating her probation, insisting she was fairly treated despite admitting the sentence came as a shock. On Friday, April 2, a Los Angeles judge ordered the "" star to serve her fourth stint behind bars, after ruling Lohan had broken the terms of her parole by becoming embroiled in allegations she had stolen a necklace from a California jewelery store in January.

The probation violation landed the actress four months in jail and 400 hours of community service, and although the felony theft charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, Lohan admits she never expected such a tough punishment.

But the actress, whose probation stems from a 2007 DUI charge, has accepted her shortcomings and is learning from her mistakes. In an interview with U.S. talk show host , which aired on Tuesday night, April 26, she says, "I've made a lot of poor decisions in the past and I'm dealing with the consequences of those decisions."

"I was kinda shocked [by the sentence]. We didn't really expect the outcome to be what it was, but I'm a big girl and I'm gonna do what I'm told to do and that's what I have to do to continue on with working in my life and I'm taking responsibility."

Asked whether she thought her sentence was too harsh, she replies, "I think that I was treated the way I should be treated." The troubled star reveals the jail term was "a wake-up call", adding, "It was definitely shocking. I was kinda numb."

However, Lohan is trying to remain positive about her legal woes, claiming "everything happens for a reason", and she insists she's working hard to rebuild her image and reputation in Hollywood to become the bankable actress she once was.

The 24-year-old says, "There were times when I was concerned [she wouldn't get movie offers], but I'm a fighter and I know that I have to work to gain back the respect back, and I'm willing to do the work that I have to do to follow through with being an actress..."

"I want the public knowledge to be about my work not about things that I didn't get into this business for, that I've put myself in positions where that was the bigger story than what I was working on."

And Lohan hopes her upcoming role in mob movie "Gotti: Three Generations" will show fans she means business. "I feel like I've let a lot of my fans down by putting myself in situations when I was young and I wasn't thinking clearly, and I really just want to be the person that I aspire to be and be the actress and be in this industry and make movies and do what I love to do and bring characters to life that my fans can relate to. And my fans have been really supportive so thank you."
