Other acts making Britain proud in the rundown included Phil Collins (Going Back), Gorillaz (Plastic Beach) and James Blunt (Some Kind of Trouble), who all sold 900,000 copies overseas.

Boy band Take That's "Progress" - the best-selling album in the U.K. last year with 1.8 million sales - shifted 800,000 copies, as did "Lungs" by Florence and the Machine.
