AceShowbiz - Tom Hardy has been offering support to troubled actress Lindsay Lohan - but his publicist insists speculation the "Inception" star is her official sobriety sponsor is false. The British actor, who struggled with alcohol addiction and drug abuse in his youth, was rumored to be helping Lohan stay clean after she completed a court-ordered stint in rehab earlier this month.

The pair is believed to have been introduced by mutual friends, and even dined together in Los Angeles last week. Hardy's representative tells TMZ.com the actor, who has been sober since 2003, has been helping the "Mean Girls" star with her recovery but insists he is not her official sponsor.

Lindsay Lohan, who initially played coy about her release from the rehab stint, has been spotted going out several times lately.
