Punching a security guard last month when he was handed parking citations, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is charged with criminal battery.

Embattled boxer has been charged with criminal battery after allegedly hitting out at a security guard in Las Vegas for handing him parking citations. Shayne Smith was patrolling the sportsman's gated community last month when he drove up to Mayweather, Jr.'s house to talk to him about a parking dispute.

The guard subsequently called cops alleging Mayweather, Jr. had reached into his car and struck him several times in the face after reportedly confronting him about the tickets. Officers paid a visit to the boxer's home to talk to him about the allegations, but wrote up a report and left when they received no answer.

The case was handed to the local District Attorney's office and Mayweather, Jr. was subsequently slapped with the battery count, reports TMZ.com. The legal documents state: "While lambasting Smith, Mayweather was allegedly jabbing his finger into the left side of Smith's cheek just below his eye. This willful and unlawful use of force and violence upon Smith caused redness and discoloration to the area which was battered by Mayweather."

Smith notified his superiors about the alleged incident and had photos taken of his bruised cheek as evidence. Mayweather, Jr. has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks - he is facing charges of coercion, grand larceny and robbery, as well as domestic battery stemming from a violent altercation with his ex-girlfriend in September, and was last month accused of assault with a deadly weapon following a separate incident in Las Vegas.
