Spike Lee to Film John Legend and The Roots' Gig

Taking part in American Express Unstaged live series, the filmmaker would document the two acts' collaboration at Madison Square Garden.

Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee is set to direct a live webcast of 's upcoming New York concert with hip-hop band later this month. Legend has teamed up with The Roots for their new collaborative album "Wake Up!" and they will perform at the Big Apple's famed Madison Square Garden on September 23.

The concert will be the second in the American Express Unstaged live series - "Monty Python" mastermind Terry Gilliam filmed the first gig with in August, which streamed online as it happened. And Lee is excited about his involvement in the concert series.

He says, "I like doing stuff live... You got to be ready for almost anything. We can't stop this concert, either. Going to have to go with the flow. It's not necessarily a Spike Lee joint. It's a John Legend and the Roots joint."
