Lindsay Lohan's Dad 'Pessimistic' About Jail Sentence, Offering to Pay for Appeal
Lindsay Lohan's father feels "pessimistic" about her jail sentence - he's convinced time behind bars will make his daughter's personal problems worse. The "Mean Girls" star was jailed for 90 days on Tuesday, July 20 for violating her parole relating to a 2007 DUI arrest.
She is expected to serve a fraction of her sentence before being released to court-ordered rehab. But Lohan's dad Michael, who also spent time in prison, is adamant jail will not help his daughter because she could suffer emotional trauma from her experiences inside.
He tells TV host Larry King, "(I feel) pessimistic in the way that I think that there's going to be some deeply rooted issues, some issues that are going to stem from being in prison, like there still are in my life, Larry. There's things I shoved deep down inside that's reared their ugly head sometimes, too. You have to swallow a lot when you're in there."
And Michael fears the actress, whose prescription pill regime was revealed in her probation report, won't be able to kick her addictions because will still have access to drugs while behind bars. Asked by King whether his daughter will have access to prescription drugs in jail, he replied, "Yes, sir." His attorney, Lisa Bloom, adds, "She gets them on limited quantities. So, that's an improvement."
In the same occasion, Michael Lohan also revealed that he is baffled by his daughter's decision not to appeal against her jail sentence, because he even offered to pay for her to challenge the ruling. Lohan's legal team did not challenge the judge's decision to send her to jail, and the star's father Michael is adamant her lawyers should have attempted to have the ruling overturned.
Michael's attorney, Lisa Bloom, also reveals her client offered to pay for the actress' appeal. She tells Larry King, "She could have won an appeal perhaps, I saw some grounds for an appeal, but attorneys could differ on that... No one has done it (lodged an appeal). And Michael offered to pay for the appeal through me. He's offered to pay for it. He's offered to do anything possible to help his daughter."
Lohan is expected to serve just a fraction of her 90-day sentence and could be free as early as August 1. She will then spend time in court-ordered rehab.
