Nicole Fiorentino fills in the vacant slot left by The Smashing Pumpkins' previous bassist Mark Tulin.

AceShowbiz - Former Veruca Salt star Nicole Fiorentino has joined The Smashing Pumpkins to replace bassist Ginger Pooley. Pooley, who toured with Billy Corgan's band in 2007 and 2008, quit the group in March to concentrate on motherhood.

Corgan pulled in The Electric Prunes' star Mark Tulin to fill in and launched an audition process to find a full-time replacement. The rocker's publicist announced the big news on her MySpace.com website on Monday, May 10.

The rep states, "Nicole is proud to announce that she is the newest member of the Smashing Pumpkins. She is keeping herself very busy these days in the studio with Billy and the rest of the Pumpkins crew. She will also be performing live with band for any future tours/gigs." Fiorentino is the band's fourth female bassist.
