Abigail Breslin's Broadway Show Scrapped Following Lukewarm Acceptance

Also starring Alison Pill and Matthew Modine, 'The Miracle Worker' about a young and deaf Helen Keller will end its production on April 4.

's Broadway show "The Miracle Worker" is set to close next month, April, after it failed to win over critics and audiences. The revival of William Gibson's play, about a young deaf and blind Helen Keller, played by Breslin, and her instructor, played by , has earned mixed reviews since it debuted earlier this year.

One critic wrote, "Surely this production, the first revival of The Miracle Worker to come to Broadway, could have highlighted the play's strengths more effectively... (director) Ms. Whoriskey's production never finds its focus."

And now show bosses have announced that the production will close on April 4, according to Variety.com.

Abigail Breslin cut her hand open on a porcelain doll in one scene earlier this year and her co-star Matthew Modine revealed the accident was just the latest in a string of injuries for Breslin. And he's heaped praise on the teen for taking the pitfalls of the grueling role in her stride.
