The 37-year-old Irish actress, who plays Penelope Featherington on the Netflix series, reveals in a new interview why she 'specifically asked' for nudity scenes in the show's third season.

AceShowbiz - Nicola Couglan shares that she's given some creative controls in the upcoming season 3 of "Bridgerton". The Irish actress, who plays Penelope Featherington on the Netflix series, revealed in a new interview why she "specifically asked" for nudity scenes in the new season.

Nicola shared in an interview with Stylist that she collaborated closely with "Bridgerton" intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot on her season 3 sex scenes. "You go, 'Ok, what do I want to show? What don't I want to show? What's scripted, and what do I want to add?' " she shared.

"I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included," Nicola told the publication. "There's one scene where I'm very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice."

Of the reason for her request, Nicola explained that it was her way to hit back at body shamers. "It just felt like the biggest 'f**k you' to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering," she noted.

"I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought, 'When I'm 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f**king hot I looked!' " the 37-year-old further explained. She went on noting that she feels "great" about the nudity in the season "because not only did I consent to it but I drove it."

In a separate interview, Nicola teased that the "intimacy stuff feels very real" in the new season. The "Derry Girls" alum told PEOPLE, "It feels very grounded in two people that are not trying to sort of, that they're awkward in front of one another, this and that, and all of a sudden they become like Lotharios in the bedroom and whatever, they get to be intimate together in a very real and beautiful way, and I think that's what makes it so affecting."

She added, "In those intimate moments, they find moments to laugh and you see them figuring it out and doing it together, and I love it."

The first part of "Bridgerton" season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix. The second part, meanwhile, is set to arrive on June 13.
