AceShowbiz - At the Edison Ballroom in New York City, Rita Moreno, the celebrated 92-year-old actress, was honored at the WNET Group's 2024 gala. There, Vin Diesel, who portrays Moreno's on-screen grandson in the "Fast and Furious" film franchise, delivered a heartfelt speech in her honor.

Diesel acknowledged Moreno as his "first crush" and credited her role in "The Electric Company" for inspiring him and his neighbors to embrace reading. He expressed gratitude for her portrayal of Abuelita in "Fast X", believing she brought authenticity and depth to the role.

Diesel's speech highlighted Moreno's impact beyond her acting career. He praised her for showing him that someone "who looks like me" could succeed as an actor, inspiring his own aspirations. Emphasizing the importance of recognition, Diesel exclaimed, "I don't have an Oscar, I don't have an Emmy, I don't have a Golden Globe, I don't have a Tony, but I got Rita Moreno."

Moreno, who also appeared in "So Young, So Bad" and "[m=West Side Story", was visibly moved by Diesel's words. She shared that it was the first time she had been celebrated in such a way. Reflecting on her journey, she sang "Dream", eliciting a standing ovation from the audience.
