The former Batman actor undergoes a dramatic transformation as the fabled monster in a movie titled 'The Bride' that marks Maggie Gyllenhaal's second directorial project.

AceShowbiz - Actress-turned-filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal has unveiled the first look at Christian Bale as Frankenstein's creature and Jessie Buckley as the titular Bride in her forthcoming Warner Bros. film, "The Bride". The all-star cast also includes Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, and Peter Sarsgaard.

The film follows a lonely Frankenstein, who travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two resurrect a murdered young woman, but the Bride becomes more than they ever anticipated, sparking a passionate romance, the attention of the police, and a radical social movement.

Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren produce the film, with Courtney Kivowitz and Carla Raij serving as executive producers. Gyllenhaal previously directed "The Lost Daughter," which earned three Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Olivia Colman and Best Supporting Actress for Buckley.

"The Bride" is scheduled for an IMAX release on October 3, 2025. It is not the only Frankenstein adaptation in the works, as Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is also directing a version starring Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, and Oscar Isaac.

According to Peter Sarsgaard, the film is "a big, romantic, deeply romantic, wild, punk monster movie." Buckley described Gyllenhaal's vision as full of "twisted imagination," expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the director again.

"The Bride" marks Gyllenhaal's second directorial effort and promises a unique and captivating take on the classic monster story.
