"Cuckoo" follows Gretchen and her parents (Jessica Henwick and Marton Csokas) as they move into a seemingly idyllic resort in the German Alps. However, Gretchen soon discovers that this bizarre place holds sinister secrets. As she is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions, Gretchen uncovers a shocking truth that implicates her own family.

The trailer opens with Gretchen confessing her desire to return home due to the disturbing nature of the resort. The family's journey to the resort is filled with eerie moments, including a strange encounter with Mr. Koning (Dan Stevens), her father's boss. Koning displays an inexplicable interest in Gretchen's mute half-sister, Alma (Mila Lieu).

Gretchen's suspicions grow when she witnesses a disturbing incident at the resort's reception area. She is forced to lock the doors and wait for Koning's arrival, after which she witnesses a young girl's shadow lurking behind her.
