The 'In the Heights' actress is grateful for the unwavering support from her former co-star, the 'Wednesday' actress, after she was booted from the horror movie franchise.

AceShowbiz - In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa Barrera, 33, opened up about her firing from the "Scream" franchise and the support she received from her former costars, particularly Jenna Ortega.

Barrera portrayed Sam Carpenter in "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" (2023) while Ortega played her younger sister Tara. Upon Barrera's departure from the franchise, Ortega reportedly left shortly after.

"We chatted for a while, and I love her so much. She's been very supportive of me, and we're sisters for life," Barrera said of Ortega, 21.

Despite her exit, Barrera maintains close relationships with her former castmates, including Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Liana Liberato, and Jack Quaid. "We'll plan little reunions to play board games because that's what we used to do when we were shooting," she explained.

Despite the fallout from her firing, Barrera remains open to a potential return to the franchise. "I've learned to never say never, but also a lot of things would have to happen for Sam to come back. For now, next page, next chapter, and then we'll see what the future holds," she said.

Barrera's firing stemmed from her social media posts about the Gaza conflict in November 2023. At the time, the studio released a statement condemning antisemitism and hate speech. Barrera expressed remorse for her posts, stating that she had used her platform to raise awareness about issues she cared about.

Despite the controversy, Barrera has received support from co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who described her as "incredibly strong."

She is currently on a press tour for her new horror film, "Abigail".
