AceShowbiz - Regina King and Jimmy Kimmel shared a touching moment during her first appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" since her son's death. "The Harder They Fall" actress and the TV host held back tears after the latter greeted her in the Thursday, March 21 episode of the show.
After the 53-year-old entered the stage, the comic told her, "It's very good to see you. How are you doing right now?" In response, she said with a smile, "Right now, I'm good."
"Good, I'm glad to hear that," Jimmy added, getting choked up. "I know you've been through a lot the last year."
"Yeah," Regina replied before leaning over to take Jimmy's hand. She then stated, "It's good to see you, Jimmy."
Jimmy couldn't help but get emotional, prompting him to take a brief pause. To light up the room, Jimmy later joked, "Did you see William Shatner backstage?" causing his guest and the audience to burst into laughter.
Regina's son, Ian Alexander Jr., died by suicide in January 2022 just after celebrating his 26th birthday. A few days before that, he made an alarming post on Twitter that read, "You know that episode of SpongeBob where they go inside his brain and it's a bunch of mini spongebobs just losing their s**t.....yea that one really hits home."
Regina finally addressed Ian's passing when speaking to Robin Roberts (II) in the March 14 episode of "Good Morning America". She said, "I'm a different person, you know, now than I was Jan. 19 ... Grief is a journey, you know?"
"I understand that grief is love that has no place to go," the Academy Award winner further explained. She added, "And that we all handle it differently."
