The momager of Miley and Noah Cyrus says she finally got the strength to start a new chapter in her life after much self-reflection during the initial years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AceShowbiz - Billy Ray Cyrus' ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, has finally gotten candid about their divorce. When sharing her story, the manager explained why she stayed in the marriage although "it had not been in a good place for a long time."

When appearing in the Wednesday, February 7 episode of "Call Her Daddy" podcast, the 56-year-old said she finally got the strength to start a new chapter after much self-reflection during the initial years of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, she was living in their California home while her now-ex went to Tennessee.

"During that period, I took a really good, hard look at life, my life, and like, 'What was I gonna do?' she recalled. "Because it had not been in a good place for a long time. And I think I did stay so long out of fear of being alone. Like I had met him when I was 23, 24."

"So being alone, and all of a sudden just having kind of the weight of the world off my shoulders, and I was able to just breathe," the mother of Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus continued. "And smoke pot and garden, and go skinny dipping in my pool. That's what I did during covid. It was hugely transformative."

Tish went on to note, that her mom's passing in August 2020 was also a turning point in her life. "I was alone during that time, I had to go through it alone, and I literally can't believe I did that," she reflected.

"It was so crazy, my two biggest fears in life were being alone and my mom passing away. And I had one month of a complete psychological breakdown," she elaborated. "It was the worst thing, it was not good. I just kind of pushed the mom thing under the rug, and then the divorce thing came."

"I could not eat, I could not sleep, I could not stop crying," the producer went on detailing. "I don't have my mom, and then I don't have my husband that has been my husband for 30 years. Like I'm scared."

Asked if she wished she had left Billy Ray earlier, Tish replied, "I really didn't want Noah to still be young." She then noted, "But looking back on it, it would have been much better for her had I left."

Tish and Billy Ray tied the knot in 1993 and had three children, Miley, Noah and Braison Cyrus. Billy Ray also adopted Tish's daughter Brandi and son Trace from her previous marriage. Tish is now married to "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell, while Billy Ray wed singer Firerose in October 2023.
