The 'Almost Famous' actress allegedly leaves the church weeks after her estranged husband, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison, was expelled and labeled as a 'Suppressive Person.'

AceShowbiz - Bijou Phillips reportedly cut ties with Scientology following Danny Masterson's prison sentence. The "Almost Famous" actress allegedly made the decision to quietly leave the church after her estranged husband was slapped with a 30-year sentence due to sexual assaults.

On Wednesday, January 17, a source, who claimed to have "close ties to former Scientology members," spilled to Daily Mail that the 43-year-old actress decided to leave the organization since she did not want to lose contact with Danny, who is the father of her 9-year-old daughter Fianna. The source also revealed that she was supported by her sister Chynna Phillips.

"Bijou left a few weeks after she found out that Danny had been declared an SP [Suppressive Person] for not living up to the standards of the church," the insider said. "It's never an easy decision to leave Scientology because you face being ripped apart from your family and friends who are still members."

"In Bijou's case, she had nothing to lose and wasn't about to cut ties with Danny, per Scientology's disconnection rules. Bijou would never do that to her daughter, plus her sisters, her close friends; none of them are Scientologists," the insider continued.

About the support that Bijou received from her sister, the source added, "Chynna has been a rock for Bijou and even though she's passionate about her own religion, she would never force anything on Bijou. She doesn't have to because she walks the talk."

While Bijou was revealed to have left the church, it remains unknown if Danny's family members, including his stepfather Joe Reaiche and mother Carole Masterson, have done the same thing. The source explained, "The Masterson family has been tight lipped on whether or not they have left the church. But I can't imagine them cutting ties with Danny. It's a toxic mess. The whole thing."

In September 2023, Danny was sentenced to 30 years in prison for two counts of forcible rape. In October of that same year, he was expelled from the organization as he was labeled as a "Suppressive Person." As a result, active members of the church are not allowed to be in contact with him.
