AceShowbiz - Katherine Heigl reunited with her "Grey's Anatomy" co-stars at the Emmy Awards. The prestigious ceremony featured a number of high profile cast reunions during Monday, January 15, night's event, with the likes of "The Sopranos", "Cheers", "Ally McBeal" and "Martin" all getting highlighted, but Heigl's was one of the more unexpected 14 years after she quit the long-running medical drama.
She joined former co-stars Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr and Chandra Wilson on stage during the event at they presented "Black Bird" actor Paul Walter Hauser with the prize for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie.
As "Grey's Anatomy" approaches its 20th season this year, Pompeo told the audience, "When the first episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' aired in March of 2005, I'm not sure if Shonda Rhimes knew that she had created a show that would have a lasting imprint on television and create lifelong friendships."
With a knowing wink to her controversial exit from the show, Heigl quipped, "And yes, there have been changes over the years... But the one constant is the amazing fanbase."
Wilson admitted the fans have stayed with the show "through plane crashes, superstorms, earthquakes and a global pandemic". and now the programme has become "officially the longest-running prime time medical drama in TV history." Pickens Jr concluded, "And that would not be possible without all of you, so to all our fans. To all of you, thank you."
Elsewhere during the ceremony, "Ally McBeal" stars Calista Flockhart, Greg Germann, Peter MacNicol, and Gil Bellows stepped out of the show's bathroom set and danced to Barry White's "You're The First, The Last, My Everything".
The "Martin" set was also recreated for the event, while "Cheers" stars Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Kelsey Grammer, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt came together in a version of the iconic sitcom's bar.
Throughout the ceremony, the likes of "Two and a Half Men", "The Sopranos", "Ted Lasso", "Community" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" enjoyed reunions and shout-outs as part of the Emmys' 75th anniversary.
