AceShowbiz - Derek Hough has shared an update on his wife Hayley Erbert. The "Dancing with the Stars" judge said his spouse has "long road to recovery" following emergency brain surgery.

"Hayley has always inspired me with her will, her strength, and her resilience and no more so than in the last 48 hrs. She is now on the long road of recovery," the 38-year-old wrote in an Instagram post. "Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us," he went on. The kindness [they've] been shown" has been "immeasurable."

"The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated," the professional dancer concluded. "Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and someway pay it forward."

On Thursday, December 7, Derek revealed on Instagram, "At the end of last night's tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital." He further explaines, "She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition."

"I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her," he continued. "I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time."

According to Mayo Clinic, an intracranial hematoma is "a collection of blood within the skull. It's usually caused by a blood vessel that bursts in the brain." The cause of this condition can be trauma such as a car accident or fall.
