AceShowbiz - Amazon has unveiled the first-look teaser at its upcoming series "Mr. & Mrs. Smith". Released on Wednesday, December 5, the new footage gives a better look at Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as John and Jane Smith respectively in the remake of Doug Liman's 2005 action comedy movie.
Set to a sexy, romantic mood music, the teaser unfittingly shows how awkward spies John and Jane are with each other. During what seems to be their first date, John asks Jane, "This your first time in New York?" Jane makes it worse when she asks, "Have you ever killed anyone?"
The two, who have to pretend to be a couple, are later seen being asked about "the intimacy between" them before Jane makes it clear to John, "I'm not in this for the romance." The footage continues to flicker scenes of them juggling from pretending to be a lovey-dovey couple to risking their lives for their missions.
The official synopsis of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" reads, "In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan."
"The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What's riskier: espionage or marriage?" it adds.
The upcoming eight-part series will feature a list of impressive guest stars, including Sarah Paulson, Paul Dano, Parker Posey, John Turturro and Ron Perlman. Michaela Coel, Alexander Skarsgard, Eiza Gonzalez, Sharon Horgan, Ursula Corbero, Wagner Moura and Billy Campbell will also make appearances on the series.
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 2, 2024.
