AceShowbiz - Mary Lou Rutton has shared an update on her health condition. Taking to social media, the Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast informed her online devotees that she stays "very positive" amid recovery from pneumonia.

The 55-year-old issued her statement on Instagram on Monday, October 30. "I'm beyond blessed to have the opportunity to make this statement. I am overwhelmed with all the love and support from the world as I fight. I am forever grateful to you all!" she began.

"I'm with family continuing to slowly recover and staying very positive as I know this recovery is a long and slow process. I appreciate everyone's respect of my privacy at this time," she added. "When the time is right, I will be sharing more information about my health issues and hope I can help others who may face the same battle as me. I love you all."

Earlier this month, Mary's daughter, McKenna Kelley, divulged that the retired athlete had spent more than a week in an ICU due to a rare form of pneumonia. In a post on the Spotfund.com page, McKenna wrote, "My amazing mom, Mary Lou, has a very rare form of pneumonia and is fighting for her life. She is not able to breathe on her own. She's been in the ICU for over a week now. Out of respect for her and her privacy, I will not disclose all details. However, I will disclose that she not insured."

She went on to urge fans to help by praying for the former "Dancing with the Stars" and contributing anything they can to the fundraiser. McKenna added, "We ask that if you could help in any way, that 1) you PRAY! and 2) if you could help us with finances for the hospital bill. ANYTHING, absolutely anything, would be so helpful for my family and my mom. Thank y'all so very much!"

Around two weeks later, McKenna confirmed that her mom Mary had been discharged from the hospital. "Mom is home and in recovery mode. We still have a long road of recovery ahead of us, but baby steps," the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram.

"We are overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone," she added. "Grateful doesn't scrape the surface of the posture of our hearts. Thank you Jesus, thank you doctors and nurses, thank you to this loving community of support."
