Sources told Daily Mail that the 54-year-old felt "sad and depressed" following a string of failed relationships. The news outlet additionally noted that Perry was longing for a wife and a family prior to his passing.
"Matthew always dreamed of having the perfect family," the insider explained. "He wanted a wife, and at least a couple of kids. And he said he wouldn't even mind marrying a woman who already had kids."
It was also said that his stepfather Keith Morrison, who treated the actor like he were his own son, was one of the people who meant a lot to Perry. That made Perry wish that he would be able to give a good life to his loved ones' children the way Morrison loved his mom and him.
"Lately the 54-year-old star has been looking for love again. But a string of failed relationships left him feeling sad and depressed, and as if he would never find that love he longed for," the source added.
The source continued, "Matthew dated dozens of women. But in the end, he always felt they were only interested in his money and his fame. And he was generous to a fault. He would shower women with gifts only to have them pack up their goodies and walk away."
"In the end I think his years of fighting demons… Drugs and alcohol… Took a toll on him, and on his health, and eventually he would end up alone again," the informant concluded.
Perry died from a suspected accidental drowning when he was found unresponsive at his home jacuzzi. Previous report claimed that he "died at his own house after some physical activity" on Saturday, October 28 morning, and medics were called to his home to respond to an apparent heart attack incident.
In their first statement, the late star's family shared that they're "heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother." The family added on Sunday, "Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend." They also thanked his legions of fans, adding, "You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."
