AceShowbiz - "The Idol" aired its finale on Sunday, July 2. Even after airing all of its five episodes, the controversial HBO series failed to impress viewers, who thought that the finale was "straight trash" and a "waste of everyone's time."
Titled "Jocelyn Forever", the finale saw an unexpected twist regarding Lily-Rose Depp's pop star character Jocelyn's relationship with Tedros, played by The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye). In the episode, Jocelyn was proven to be as much of a manipulator as the shady club owner.
The revelation unsurprisingly raised people's eyebrows. "I'm confused when did this jump happen in the show to where Joseline hates Tedros also why is she still letting him around her if she hates him?" one viewer tweeted.
"I can't be the only one who feels like we skipped a bunch of narrative between last week's episode & tonight's finale. Last weekend, Jocelyn was excusing Tedros' abusive past & now she's done with his B.S.," another viewer opined, calling the finale "straight trash."
Some others found the finale "rushed," with one person calling the series "the worst show I've ever watched." The user further explained, "I can tell the diameter of lily rose depp's nipples but i don't know the show's story."
It was previously reported that "The Idol" was supposed to end with six episodes. However, it ended after five episodes after Sam Levinson was in charge.
A source told TVLine that the "story only ended up requiring 5" episodes. "The season ended up being five episodes when it was all said and done after Sam took over and made significant changes," the insider told the outlet.
"The Idol" was also rumored to not be renewed for a second season. HBO's communications team, however, clarified the reports in a Twitter post. "It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined," the @HBOPR account wrote. "It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night."
Star Da'Vine Joy Randolph also talked about whether there will be a sophomore season or not. "I think that everyone's intention is to have a second season. This was never intended to be a limited series," the Destiny depicter shared. "Nothing is official, but HBO is quite happy."
