AceShowbiz - John Goodman apparently has succeeded in losing his body weight. After years of sticking to his weight loss goal, the former "Saturday Night Live" host looked sharp as he made an appearance at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

While hitting the red carpet of the event in Monaco, the 71-year-old actor had a different appearance after losing a good amount of his body weight. For the occasion held on Sunday, June 18, he sported a long-sleeved white shirt and paired it with a body fit navy blue buttoned blazer.

The star of "The Righteous Gemstones" added a pair of loose beige pants and a patterned white-and-yellow tie. To complete the look, he donned a pair of brown loafers and matching sunglasses.

John attended the event to serve as the jury president of the festival after being chosen by the event organizer, Laurent Puons. On the reason why Laurent decided to choose John as the head of the jury, Laurent told Variety, "John Goodman is, quite frankly, a legend. My grandson loves him, my mother loves him and I love him."

"He's crossed several generations with a phenomenal film career, and a phenomenal television career," the organizer continued. "He's done it all, played every role. If he wasn't leading the jury, we'd give him our lifetime achievement award."

John himself has lost more than 200 pounds after years of discipline to lose body weight. He started his weight loss journey back in 2007. At that time, he weighed 400 pounds and reached one of his heaviest weights.

John has shared the things he did to lose weight. Back in March 2016, he had an interview with Peter Travers for ABC News when he opened up about his weight loss. "I just stopped eating all the time," he spilled at that time. "I'd have a handful of food and it'd go to my mouth. I was just eating all the time. I was just eating alcoholically."

"In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a 6-pack of bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits," he recalled. "Then this time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise. I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to sit still anymore. And it gives me the energy to work, 'cause work is very draining."

On the reason why John decided to lose weight, he explained, "I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself." He continued, "You're shaving in the mirror and you don't want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous."
