Christopher Paoline, the author of young adult novel series 'The Inheritance Cycle' that the planned show will be based on, shares his excitement in a series of tweets.

AceShowbiz - An "Eragon" live-action TV series is reportedly in the works on Disney+. According to Variety, the planned show will be based on Christopher Paolini's young adult novel series "The Inheritance Cycle" which has "Eragon" being the first of the four books.

A source reveals to the site that Paolini will be serving as co-writer on the series. Meanwhile, Bert Salke will executive produce under his Co-Lab 21 banner, with 20th Television producing. The series is too early in development for an official decision so it's unknown if Paolini will also serve as showrunner.

Paolini shared his excitement in a series of tweets while responding to fans' tweets. When asked about his feelings about the new TV project based on his book series, he replied with various emojis including dragon and fire emojis.

In a separate tweet, Paolini said, "So, all I can say at the moment is ... thank you. Thank you to everyone who has read the books, supported the tweetstorms, and participated in this fandom. None of this would have happened without you Alagaesians."

Chistopher Paolini reacted to the news of 'Eragon' TV series.

"The Inheritance Cycle" follows a farmboy named Eragon who discovers an egg that hatches into a dragon he names Saphira. He learns to be a Dragon Rider, an ancient order that had long been thought to be wiped out by the evil king Galbatorix, through their bond and the help of his mentor Brom. Eragon and Saphira team up to defeat Galbatorix and free the land of Alagaesia from his tyranny.

"Eragon" was first self-published in 2002. "Eldest" followed it up in 2005 with "Brisingr" published in 2008. Later in 2011, "Inheritance" was published. Over 41 million copies sold worldwide, proving that the book series is incredibly popular.

Disney+'s "Eragon" will not be the first project which has adapted the book. Back in 2006, the book was previously adapted into a film of the same name. In "Eragon", Ed Speleers starred as Eragon with Rachel Weisz lending her voice for Saphira. The movie also starred Jeremy Irons as Brom and John Malkovich as Galbatorix.

Grossing approximately $250 million at the worldwide box office against a reported budget of $100 million, the film was widely panned by critics upon its release. Last year, fans of the novel series tried to make hashtag #EragonRemake trend in attempt to get Disney to produce a series version of the books.
