AceShowbiz - BBC One has unearthed the first-look photos at its latest adaptation of "Les Miserables" hailing from Andrew Davies. The new photos give a better look at the main cast in character including Lily Collins, Olivia Colman, David Oyelowo, Dominic West, Josh O'Connor, Ellie Bamber and Adeel Akhtar.

Collin's ill mother Fantine is seen raising one of her eyebrows while looking straight at the camera. Colman's innkeeper-turned-street-criminal Madame Thénardier, meanwhile, is donning her maid costume while posing in what seems like a kitchen.

Also featured in the photos are Dominic West and David Oyelowo. Playing ex-convict Jean Valjean and policeman Javert respectively, the two are seen having a serious conversation. There are also Ellie Bamber as Fantine's grown-up daughter Cosette and Josh O'Connor as Cosette's lover Marius.

The last photo offers a look at Adeel Akhtar character, Monsieur Thenardier.

Based on Victor Hugo's 19th century classic novel of the same name, the six-part series is set to be a dramatic adaptation with no songs, unlike the 2012 musical film and the stage show. " 'Les Miserables is a huge iconic title. Most of us are familiar with the musical version which only offers a fragmentary outline of its story. I am thrilled to have the opportunity of doing real justice to Victor Hugo at last by adapting his masterpiece in a six-hour version for the BBC, with the same team who made War & Peace," Davies said when announcing the project.

BBC Studios and Lookout Point for BBC and Masterpiece are co-producing the series. Production of the series took place in France and Belgium earlier this year. The series has yet to announce the exact release date, though it is set to air early 2019 on BBC One.
