Warner Bros. is aiming to begin the filming of the 'Tom and Jerry' movie in 2019 with 'Ride Along' director Tim Story tapped at the helm.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. is actively developing new movies of its popular animated properties. The studio has reportedly worked on a new "Tom and Jerry" live-action/animated hybrid movie, in addition to the previously planned new animated "Scooby-Doo" and "The Flintstones" movies.

According to Variety, the studio is putting the new "Tom and Jerry" movie on a fast track, with "Ride Along" film series director Tim Story hired to serve behind the lens. It is expected to begin filming in 2019, before the long-awaited "Space Jam" sequel.

Story is fresh off directing New Line's "Shaft" reboot, "Son of Shaft", which is distributed by Warner Bros. in the U.S. During a talk with WB execs, the filmmaker reportedly mentioned his admiration for the animal characters and expressed his interest in directing the project.

The "Tom and Jerry" movie will incorporate scenes shot in real world with animated versions of the familiar cat and mouse duo. The movie will stick to the animated version's style that relied on physical comedy to draw laughs, which is expected to appear to international audience.

Meanwhile, for the new "Scooby-Doo" animated movie, WB has tapped Chris Columbus to serve as creative producer. First announced in 2015, it is currently scheduled for a May 15, 2020 release after originally planned for September 21, 2018. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who produced live-action films "Scooby-Doo" and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed", will produce the upcoming film alongside Allison Abbate ("The Fantastic Mr. Fox", "Corpse Bride" and "Frankenweenie").

Also on the studio's animation slate are "The Jetsons" movie with Matt Lieberman working on the script and "Sausage Party" director Conrad Vernon tapped as the helmer, as well as "Wacky Races". Additionally, "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler has been tapped to work on "Space Jam 2", which will star LeBron James, with Justin Lin serving as executive producer.
