The 32-year-old filmmaker will be back to write and direct the sequel to the Chadwick Boseman-starring movie.

AceShowbiz - "Black Panther" sequel will be the work of Ryan Coogler once again. Words are, Marvel Studios has quietly extended its deal with the 32-year-old filmmaker to write and direct the next installment of the blockbuster movie. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.

According to the news outlet, the contract was actually completed a while ago. However, Coogler took some time in making a deal with the studio. This is the same approach Patty Jenkins took with "Wonder Woman 1984".

Coogler, who is also known for his work on "Fruitvale Station" and "Creed", is expected to have the script finished next year as the studio eyes to begin "Black Panther 2" production in late 2019, or possibly early 2020.

Details about when the "Black Panther" will be released are still unclear. The only Marvel Studios projects that have been officially announced by the studio and its parent company Disney are "Avengers 4" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home". While the next "Avenger" movie is set for May, the sequel to "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will be released in July next year.

Starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular hero, "Black Panther" ranks as the third highest-grossing Marvel movie with $1.3 billion in global box office. It is behind "The Avengers", which takes the second spot with $1.5 billion, and "Avengers: Infinity War", which tops the list with $2 billion.

It was recently revealed that Marvel Studios and Disney had chosen to put their focus on "Black Panther" for Academy Award consideration. They planned to put the movie forward for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song for "All the Stars" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA and six more categories.

Should "Black Panther" win an award at the upcoming 91st Academy Awards ceremony, it will be the first Marvel movie to snatch an Oscar.
