The 'A Star Is Born' female lead is reportedly up for a role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story.

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa may be going from the stage to underwater in her next big-screen project. The singer-turned-actress has been offered a role in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" live-action movie, The Insider report. It is believed that she is courted for the role of Ursula.

A source reportedly close to the project tells the site that the 32-year-old star is high on Disney's wish list for the undisclosed part in the upcoming film based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic children story. The studio has not confirmed the report.

The news comes on the heels of GaGa's critically-acclaimed performance in "A Star Is Born" remake, in which she stars opposite Bradley Cooper who also directed the musical drama. Considering that, it's no wonder that GaGa has now become one of the most-sought actresses in Hollywood.

GaGa previously starred on FX's "American Horror Story: Hotel", the fifth installment of Ryan Murphy's horror anthology series. She received a Golden Globe Award for her role of The Countess, putting her mark in the acting industry.

She's recently also rumored to make her Broadway debut in "Funny Girl". Rosie O'Donnell sparked the reports as she said during an appearance at The Paramount theatre in Long Island, New York that the "Born This Way" hitmaker has been tapped to take the lead role of Fanny Brice, which was portrayed by Barbra Streisand in the 1976 version. O'Donnell additionally claimed that she would be Brice's mum in the stage play.

Disney's "The Little Mermaid" live-action movie has Rob Marshall ("Chicago", "Into the Woods", "Mary Poppins Returns") on board as director. Back in August, it was reported that Zendaya Coleman was eyed to star as Ariel, but it hasn't been confirmed.

Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda are tapped to compose the music, while Jane Goldman is hired to write the script. Production is expected to take place in Puerto Rico and Cape Town Africa, but no release date is set for the movie just yet.
