'Avengers 4' May Begin With Big Time Jump

Instead of picking up immediately after 'Infinity War', the follow-up movie will reportedly take place five years after the events in the previous film.

AceShowbiz - Another day, another rumor about "Avengers 4" timeline emerges. Words on the street are the upcoming movie will take place at least five years after the events in "Avengers: Infinity War", instead of picking up immediately after the demise of some superheroes at the hands of Thanos.

Sharing the theory was SuperBroMovies' Daniel R, who wrote on Twitter, "Avengers 4 starts YEARS after Infinity War. Not just a few months later as some people were hoping for. Sorry guys." He then clarified that it's five years, to be exact.

Supporting this theory, CBR suggests that the five-year time jump will fit with rumors that "Avengers 4" had cast an older version of Cassie Lang, Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) daughter. The time jump would also allow Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to fix his Hulk issues and let Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) out of retirement.

Previously leaked set photos showed what appeared to be older Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) wearing a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, meaning that he's joined a reformed version of S.H.I.E.L.D. He was last seen in Titan with the likes of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Peter Quill/Star Lord (Chris Pratt), but the time jump would give him enough time to return to Earth.

Additionally, there has been theory that "Avengers 4" will deal with time travel, which allows the survived Avengers to develop a new plan to defeat Thanos, before traveling back in time to stop him from wiping out half of the population. It will also explain speculation that "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is set just minutes after the events of "Avengers 4".

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Avengers 4" is set to open in U.S. theaters on May 3, 2019. Mark Ruffalo allegedly revealed the movie title during his appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" last week. While the actor got bleeped out when "spoiling" the supposed title, a fan removed the censor to reveal that Ruffalo said the title is "The Last Avenger".
