The actor, who plays Ian Gallagher on the long-running Showtime series, announces that the next episode will be his last.

AceShowbiz - After Emmy Rossum, now Cameron Monaghan has announced that he is leaving "Shameless" too. The 25-year-old actor surprised the show's fans by dropping the news about his exit less than a week before his last episode on the hit Showtime series.

"I have been a series regular on this show for roughly ten years," he posted on Instagram along with his pictures on the show. "I was the tender age of fifteen when we shot the pilot, and I came of age in so many ways, both legally and personally."

He continued, "I was very lucky to mature and grow with this show. Experiencing so many firsts, maturing as an actor, a professional, and a human. In the process gaining friends, family, and the best coworkers a very lucky actor could ask for, and for this I can be nothing but gracious. All good things come to an end. An old cliche, but one that rings true with a sincerity and clarity especially in moments like these. Everything ends."

Monaghan planned his exit since last year, but he wanted to keep it a secret from fans until now to allow "them to experience Ian's unsure journey with his character." He concluded, "This role has been a joy to inhabit, a wild and special ride, and I'd like to thank #Shameless as well as you, the viewers, for being there with him. Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher," before teasing, "We'll meet again?"

Monaghan has portrayed Ian Gallagher on "Shameless" since the first season. His last episode will air Sunday, October 14 at 9/8c on Showtime. Monaghan also recurs on FOX's "Gotham" as Jerome Valeska.

His exit announcement follows another main cast member Emmy Rossum, who revealed in August her plan to leave the show after nine seasons. Her last episode has not been announced, though.
