‘That is a difficult decision for me, but I cannot have these serious allegations influence the band,’ states Orri Pall Dyrason when addressing his exit from the Icelandic avant-rock band.

AceShowbiz - Sigur Ros drummer Orri Pall Dyrason has quit the band due to sexual misconduct allegations.

The 41-year-old musician has been accused of sexual assault by U.S. artist Meagan Boyd, who claims Dyrason raped her while she slept after they spent a night out together in Los Angeles 2013.

On his official Facebook page Dyrason wrote that he was leaving the group to tackle the allegations.

"In light of the scale of this matter, I have decided to leave Sigur Ros," his statement read. "That is a difficult decision for me, but I cannot have these serious allegations influence the band and the important and beautiful work that has been done there for the last years. A job that is so dear to me."

He concluded by vowing "to get myself out of this nightmare," but would fight the claims in private, "out of respect for those actually suffering from sexual violence".

Sigur Ros' two remaining members Georg Holm, and Jonsi Birgisson later confirmed the news on the band's own page, writing: "In the wake of the extremely serious and personal allegations made against him in recent days we have today accepted the resignation of our bandmate Orri Pall Dyrason to allow him to deal with this privately. Jonsi & Georg."

Boyd made her claims in a series of posts on Instagram last week (end September 30), alleging that she had met the Icelandic rocker while the band was recording in L.A., and that she fell asleep in the same bed as Dyrason after a night of drinking. She alleges she was woken twice during the night by being penetrated without consent. The artist wrote that she had been inspired to go public by the actions of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford - who has accused U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of attempting to sexually assault her when they were both teenagers.
