Sitting for an interview on ABC's '20/20', Sharon Nelson also insists that the late 'Purple Rain' singer wouldn't have deliberately taken the drugs had he known.

AceShowbiz - Prince's half-sister Sharon Nelson has insisted the singer wouldn't have deliberately taken the opioid fentanyl.

The "Purple Rain" singer died in April 2016 at the age of 57 following an accidental overdose of fentanyl, and it was later revealed that he had "exceedingly high" levels of the opioid in his system. The subsequent investigation into his death concluded that Prince didn't knowingly consume the dangerous drug, as authorities found counterfeit pills of painkiller Vicodin laced with the potent substance.

His half-sister Sharon recently sat down for an interview with ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff for a segment about fentanyl and America's opioid crisis on U.S. news show "20/20", and in a preview clip, she insists he wouldn't have deliberately taken it.

"He wouldn't have taken a pill like that at all had he known, but when you're in pain, you're going to take something, hoping it relieves it," she said. "You're not thinking like that; you're not thinking like a normal person that isn't in pain, you're not in pain, you're not gonna take that pill."

She believes there is a silver lining from the tragedy because it has raised awareness about how dangerous the drug is.

"After all that's happened to Prince, I know, I can say for sure that his fans will never take that pill," she continued.

The rest of her interview airs in the U.S. on Friday, September 28.
