The tennis athlete says that she and the Duchess of Sussex have been 'relying on each other a lot recently.'

AceShowbiz - Serena Williams and Meghan Markle's friendship is not a secret. Thus, it's not suprising to see the tennis star gushing over the Duchess of Sussex as she opens up about their friendship during the former's appearance on Australian TV's "The Sunday Project" following her controversial loss at the U.S. Open.

"We were actually just texting each other this morning," Serena said of the wife of Prince Harry in the interview.

Of giving each other advice about their place in the media spotlight, Williams shared, "We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other right a lot recently."

Serena was also reflecting on Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding back in May in which she was among the guests alongside David Beckham, Victoria Adams a.k.a. Victoria Beckham, George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney. "To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history," she said of the big event.

"I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it's going to be so historic. It's going to be something that people never forget," she continued. The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that's what happened."

Meghan and Serena reportedly first met in 2010. Their bond later continued to grow over the years.

The interview arrives after it was rumored that Meghan, who has been dealing with drama surrounding her father Thomas Markle and estranged half-sister Samantha Markle, is struggling to find someone to rely on in England. "There never seems to be anyone with her except a cop following at a discreet distance," a local previously claimed. "She does not seem unhappy but she does seem very solitary."

Being lonely apparently isn't the only thing that makes her new life challenging. It's reported that some of Harry's elite friends have issues with her, or more specifically her politics, according to Lady Colin Campbell, a friend of the late Princess Diana's "with good contacts among the wider family."

Campbell said, "She is ultra-liberal and that trendy-lefty stuff does not go down well with some of Harry's friends." The Duke of Sussex allegedly "has introduced her to them all at parties and weddings and private dinners, but she is very anti- a lot of the things that their world functions upon, such as shooting."
