The Meredith Grey depicter sounds unsure about the future of 'Grey's Anatomy', revealing that she's 'definitely looking for a change.'

AceShowbiz - Ellen Pompeo has been playing Meredith Grey for 14 seasons, and she's not going to put down the white gown anytime soon as the long-running ABC medical series is set to return for 15th season on September 27. However, how much longer Ellen will be sticking around Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital?

The answer may not be satisfying for the fans of the show as the actress sounds unsure about the future of "Grey's Anatomy". "I'm clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell," she tells Entertainment Weekly.

Further fueling speculations that she will exit the series after her contract is up in 2020, Ellen adds, "It's about time that I mix it up. I'm definitely looking for a change." Should she choose not to renew her contract, the show would end with season 16 in 2020.

Back in 2017, Ellen also said she wasn't ready to say how much longer she saw the show going on. "Well, let's just see, you know? I don't like to take things for granted. You can't just assume the show can go on forever. It's up to the fans. And the fans will let us know how long they want the show to air," she shared.

"Grey's Anatomy" still has massive fanbase to back it up, though the viewer ratings continue to plummet. In addition, show creator Shonda Rhimes has moved from ABC to Netflix. Many have assumed that NBC will soon wrap up things for Meredith and the company.

Ellen previously revealed that she would like to work behind the camera once she finishes her stint on "Grey's Anatomy". "I'd love to direct a pilot. I really like producing, that's really challenging for me," the actress said. "I think I've had an amazing training. I've had a Master Class in producing these last 14 years. I know every aspect of making a television show. Producing and directing is where I'm challenged and where I'm learning. It's more interesting to me because it's a skill I haven't mastered yet."
