The 'Man of Steel' actor's odds of being the new 007 agent have been slashed following rumors about his Superman exit.

AceShowbiz - "Bond 25" is yet to begin production, but producers may have started the search for the new 007 agent. Rumors have been floating around that Henry Cavill is wanted to play James Bond in the next movie, replacing Daniel Craig.

Crazy Days and Nights first ran blind item about the matter on September 13, without naming the subjects. "The producers of this long running franchise don't care at all about the cloud swirling around the head of this foreign born former superhero," it read. "They want to cast him as their next replacement."

A week later, on Thursday, September 20, the gossip site revealed that the "long running franchise" was "Bond" and the "foreign born former superhero" was Cavill.

The news came on the heels of reports that the 35-year-old British actor would hang up his Superman mantle. Following rumors of his departure from DCEU, his odds of being the new 007 agent have been slashed by bookies.

Cavill has been among contenders for Craig's replacement as the new bond, but his odds have been cut right down from 14/1 to 8/1 by Ladbrokes. That put him ahead of "Game of Thrones" alum Richard Madden and on par with long-rumored contender Tom Hiddleston.

While the former star of "The Tudors" has not responded to the Bond rumors, he seemingly hinted that he's not giving up the superhero role just yet. The "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" star recently posted a video of him wearing a Krypton Lifting Team T-shirt and holding up a Superman toy.

His manager Dany Garcia also insisted on Twitter, "Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. [Warner Bros. Pictures] has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today."

While Cavill's future as Superman remains vague because a "Batman v Superman" sequel has yet to be greenlit by Warner Bros., "Bond 25" moves forward with Cary Fukunaga on board as the new director. The "True Detective" helmer is replacing Danny Boyle, who exited the project in August due to creative differences.

Production on the new installment of the spy movie series is now scheduled to start in March 2019, while the release date has been pushed back to February 14, 2020.
