Besides Joaquin Phoenix who plays the titular Batman villain, the cast list includes Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Frances Conroy and Brett Cullen.

AceShowbiz - The official full cast of "Joker" has been revealed as production on the movie is currently underway. Besides confirming the casting of Joaquin Phoenix, Frances Conroy, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron and Robert De Niro, the list includes Shea Whigham, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Douglas Hodge, Josh Pais and Brett Cullen.

Phoenix is tapped to portray the Clown Prince of Crime, whose real name is Arthur Fleck in the movie. The roles of the other stars are not specified, but Cullen is reported to replace Alec Baldwin as Batman a.k.a. Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas Wayne.

Baldwin was initially set to star in the upcoming standalone movie, but had to drop out just days after the news broke because of "scheduling" issues. His replacement, Cullen, is no stranger to the DC Comics universe, having appeared as a congressman in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012).

An origin story of the signature villain of Batman, "Joker" is dubbed a "standalone story not seen before on the big screen." It is further described as a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale of a man disregarded by society who becomes the ultimate supervillain.

Todd Phillips serves as director with the script which he co-wrote with Scott Silver. The helmer recently shared the first look at Phoenix as Batman's nemesis pre-his Joker days. Rocking unkempt wavy hair with bangs, Phoenix looks rugged while sporting a green jacket on top of a shirt.

The actor was also spotted on the set in Manhattan, New York City on Sunday, September 16. Wearing a hoodie jacket on top a brown vest and shirt while carrying a paper bag, he was seen showing his character's maniacal laugh while filming with another actor who sported a clown makeup.

Produced by Phillips along with Martin Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff, the DC-Warner Bros. movie is scheduled for an October 4, 2019 release in the United States.
