The director stunned everyone in the room when he called his girlfriend Jan Svendsen the 'sunshine' of his life and said he wanted to call her his 'wife.'

AceShowbiz - Glenn Weiss probably was the happiest at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The 57-year-old television producer and director did not only go home with an award, but also with a new fiancee after staging a live proposal on the show.

Weiss took the stage after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special award for The Oscars. Delivering his acceptance speech, he thanked his girlfriend Jan Svendsen for being the "sunshine" of his life. He added, "And mom was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."

The crowd erupted into cheers, while Svendsen who was sitting among the audience looked stunned. Upon realizing Weiss' intention, she made her way on to the stage and join Weiss, who then got on one knee and presented her with the ring his father gave to his mother 67 years ago.

"I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above," he said. "Will you marry me?" And of course, she said "yes." Weiss said, "Thank you to the Academy," before signing off.

Weiss' proposal got the audience emotional, as Claire Foy was seen wiping away tears. But Leslie Jones probably had the best reaction of all. She stood up with her jaw dropped as soon as Svendsen made the proposal.

She then took to Twitter to say, "The man that's going to be with me is going to propose to me on the Emmys. If you don't do that, you ain't serious about our love."

The comedienne added in the caption, "Man that was the best speech ever! #emmys2018."
