AceShowbiz - A shooting incident Lil Wayne has rapped about in the past was actually a suicide attempt.
The Lollipop hitmaker shot himself in the chest when he was 12 after his mother told him he couldn't rap anymore, but up until now he has always played down the drama as an accident.
He has revealed it was actually a suicide attempt in a new track on his long-awaited "Tha Carter V" album, which is due out later this month.
According to Billboard, the 35 year old decided to change the lyrics to the unnamed track following the suicides of fashion designer Kate Spade and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain earlier this year.
"He just told me one day that he was ready to address it now," Mack Maine, president of Young Money Entertainment and Wayne's longtime friend, tells the publication. "Just being an adult, reaching a level of maturity and comfort where it's like, 'I want to talk about this because I know a lot of people out here might be going through that.' "
This isn't the first time the rapper has addressed the shooting incident or an apparent suicide attempt on record - but he's never revealed the two life events are linked.
On Free Weezy's London Roads, he rapped: "Ms. Cita (Wayne's mum), I remember going in your gun drawer/Putting it to my chest and missing my heart by centimeters."
And on Solange's Mad, he spat: "And when I attempted suicide, I didn't die/I remember how mad I was on that day/Man, you gotta let it go before it get up in the way/Let it go, let it go."
