Derek Mears has been cast as the titular creature on the adaptation of the DC comics, but not playing his human counterpart, Alec Holland.

AceShowbiz - Derek Mears is going to get dirty for his next role. The actor, best known for his role of Jason Voorhees in 2009's "Friday the 13th", has reportedly been cast as the titular creature on upcoming DC Universe drama "Swamp Thing".
Bloody Disgusting confirms Mears casting news, which was earlier run by Splash Report. According to the reports, the 46-year-old actor will be portraying the monster using a practical creature suit, but he won't portray his human counterpart, Alec Holland.
Mears is also known for playing Hawes in "Hatchet III". As for his small-screen acting credits, they include his role as Krampus on "Grimm", as Renzo on 2017's "Twin Peaks" revival, as Kree Captain on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", and as Dwarfstar / Sylbert Rundine on "The Flash".
There's still no word on who will play the very human Holland. "Gotham" star Crystal Reed was previously tapped to play Abby Arcane, while Maria Sten ("Channel Zero", "Straight Outta Compton") has been cast as Liz Tremayne.
The comics follow CDC researcher Abby Arcane as she investigates what appears to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana. During her research, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, who is later turned into the mysterious creature.
The "Swamp Things" TV series, based on the characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, aims to be a rated R and very dark take on the character's DC Comics lore, primarily based on Alan Moore's run.
Len Wiseman, the man behind the "Underworld" franchise, will executive produce the series and direct the first episode of the potential new series. "Ash vs. Evil Dead" writer Mark Verheiden and "It" co-writer Gary Dauberman are teaming up to write the script.
