The Tidal X: Brooklyn show will take place on October 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

AceShowbiz - Bosses at Jay-Z's streaming service Tidal are using their fourth annual charity concert in New York to benefit criminal justice reform efforts across the U.S.

The Tidal X: Brooklyn show will take place on 23 October at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and this time around, 100 per cent of the ticket proceeds will be donated to organisations like Reform and the Equal Justice Initiative.

Jay-Z launched the concerts in 2015 and has since raised over $10 million (£7.7 million) for causes close to his heart, including education.

Last year (17), performers including Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Fifth Harmony, and the 99 Problems hitmaker himself helped to raise $3.7 million (£2.9 million) for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Irma in Florida, and the earthquakes in Mexico, with the funds donated to officials at several disaster relief organisations, such as Recovery Effort for Puerto Rico, Global Giving, the Greater Houston Community Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico.

Jay-Z also teamed up with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to collect public donations of goods and money to help fill cargo planes with basic necessities for desperate Puerto Ricans in September, 2017.

The headliners for the 2018 event have yet to be announced, but it's no surprise Jay-Z decided to use the big gig to fund the work of criminal justice reform activists.

He has become increasingly vocal about his grievances with the U.S. justice system, and last year, he penned a New York Times opinion piece about the need for change in support of then-incarcerated rapper Meek Mill, who was jailed for a probation violation relating to a 2008 weapons charge.

"The specifics of Meek's case inspired me to write this," he shared. "But it's time we highlight the random ways people trapped in the criminal justice system are punished every day. The system treats them as a danger to society, consistently monitors and follows them for any minor infraction - with the goal of putting them back in prison...".

"Probation is a trap and we must fight for Meek and everyone else unjustly sent to prison," he added.

Meek was released from jail in April after serving five months behind bars.
