The 'Greatest Showman' actor plays Gary Hart, a Democratic presidential candidate in 1988, in the biographical dark comedy.

AceShowbiz - Sony Pictures' "The Front Runner" has unveiled its first official trailer for viewing pleasure. Based on a true story, the movie stars Hugh Jackman as American Senator Gary Hart, a Democratic presidential candidate in 1988.

His campaign manager Bill Dixon, played by J.K. Simmons, is so confident about him, praising him, "I've never known a guy more talented at untalented politics so that anyone could understand. It is a gift and he wants to share that." Initially a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in the 1988 election, his campaign is marred by a report of extramarital affair.

The pressure gets higher, with the intense media scrutiny surrounding his personal life. "We need to say something," Dixon urges Hart, who firmly responds, "It's nobody business. None of it is." Dixon angrily responds, "Okay, but we're not talking about that. We're talking about how you get through today." Hart says again, "This campaign is about the future. Not rumors, not sleaze. I care about the sanctity of this process whether you do or do not!"

Vera Farmiga plays his wife Lee Hart, with Alfred Molina playing a sort of the head of a newspaper publisher. In the end of the trailer, Hart cautiously warns his wife, "There's going to be a story tomorrow about me."

The movie is directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno", "Up in the Air") from a script he wrote with veteran political journalist Matt Bai and former press secretary for Hillary Clinton, Jay Carson. It is based on Bai's 2014 book "All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid".

The cast line-up also includes Sara Paxton, Spencer Garrett, Kevin Pollak, Mark O'Brian and many others. The movie will have its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on August 31, before heading into theaters across the nation on November 7.
