The country singer says in an interview, 'I'm embarrassed that that situation got to where it was, but not personally.'

AceShowbiz - Country star Gretchen Wilson is "saddened" and "embarrassed" by her airport arrest.

The Redneck Woman singer was arrested by police officers last week, beg August 20 at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut after she reportedly "became belligerent toward the troopers and caused a disturbance".

She was subsequently charged with breach of peace, and her bail was set at $1,000 (£775).

Opening up about the incident to Taste of Country, Gretchen admitted: "I'm saddened by the whole thing.

"I don't know that I could say - I mean, I'm embarrassed that that situation got to where it was, but not personally."

Editors at TMZ have reported that she got into a fight with a passenger over an aeroplane bathroom, and while the Grammy winner remains tight-lipped on what actually happened, calling the incident an "open case matter" on Twitter recently, the 45-year-old is looking forward to being able to set the record straight.

"It's been really frustrating for me not to be able to talk about it, because people who know me know that I just wanna get it straight," she said. "I'm reading all of these headlines and am like, 'Oh gosh, it's so wrong. It's all so wrong!'"

She also explained how her daughter and mother, who had been waiting for a text from her when she landed, reacted.

"I got a bunch of WTFs (what the f**ks) and question marks, is kind of what I got," Gretchen recounted. "They weren't worried though. They could tell by my texting and you know, what I was saying to them, that I was going to be okay."
