The 'American Idol' season 5 winner says Katharine's tweet about 'voting matters' was 'brilliant.'

AceShowbiz - Taylor Hicks has spoken up about Katharine McPhee's "American Idol" tweet. The "American Idol" season 5 winner reacted to the 34-year-old singer/actress' epic shade at him in an interview with TMZ. But instead of hitting back, Taylor seemed to think it was all in good fun.

"It was a brilliant tweet. Because voting does matter now," the 41-year-old singer said. "If it's fun to have a little with an 'Idol' contest... then it's always fun." Asked if he took it as a shade or if there's bad blood between them, he answered, "Obviously not."

On Tuesday, August 28, Katharine took to Twitter to remind everyone to register to vote for the upcoming midterm elections. She stressed the importance of voting by posting a throwback photo of herself and Taylor on "Idol" stage and writing along with it, "voting matters register here #midterms2018."

"American Idol" fans may still remember that Taylor won season 5 of the singing competition show, while Katharine was the runner-up. The diss came as a shock as it suggested that she thinks she should have won but not enough people voted for her.

Responding to Katharine's tweet, a fan commented, "I'd still take @TaylorHicks over you singing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' for the thousandth time." Another slammed the "Scorpion" star, "At least Taylor didn't have to sleep with producers and executives to gain success or publicity after Idol."

"If she wants to be savage then she should expect it right back. She wasn't the best contestant that season," read another comment. Another defended Taylor, "Taylor's a good guy doesnt deserve ur shade Kat . There's other ways to say get out the vote."
