Paramount Pictures offers another role to the 'Hidden Figures' actor after he lost the role of Goose's son.

AceShowbiz - Glen Powell is reportedly in talks to join Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick", which is the sequel of "Top Gun". Paramount Pictures previously eyed the "Hidden Figures" actor to play Nick Bradshaw a.k.a. Goose's son, but the role was then given to Miles Teller instead. However, the studio is being generous by giving Powell a second chance to join the project's cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to involve Powell in the movie came a month after he lost the role. Paramount's executives, Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Skydance loved Powell's performance so much that they created another role for the actor. Unfortunately, it's still unknown what role Powell will be playing. Besides Powell, Nicholas Hoult and Dylan O'Brien were once considered as the potential candidates to play Maverick's wingman's son.

Apparently, Powell himself is a fan of the movie. He shared a funny reaction on his Twitter account after he knew the role was passed to Teller. "I'm taking down all the Tom Cruise posters in my bedroom," he quipped. "Maybe, I'll leave one. Two for symmetry. Okay, the posters are staying."

In the long-awaited sequel, Cruise will return to play hotshot pilot LT Pete Mitchell a.k.a. Maverick. The 56-year-old actor reunites with director Joseph Kosinski in the project after they previously worked together in sci-fi thriller "Oblivion". Cruise is not the only one who will return in the sequel as Val Kilmer has also signed up to play Maverick's rival Tom Kazansky a.k.a. Iceman.

Cruise, who also serves as the producer for "Top Gun: Maverick", previously confirmed that Jennifer Connelly would join him in the sequel. "Look, she's a great actress, obviously. When you see the film, you'll see why she’s perfect for it," the Maverick depicter said during the premiere of "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" in Washington D.C. "She has such a very talented, very vibrant, and, you know, see we're just going to have a great cast. Gonna be a lot of fun."

Paramount Pictures still keeps the film's plot under wraps. The sequel of "Top Gun" will hit U.S. theaters on July 12, 2019.
