The 'Like A Prayer' hitmaker will mark the age milestone on 16 August.

AceShowbiz - Pop legend Madonna is turning her upcoming 60th birthday into a fan fundraiser to boost donations for her Raising Malawi foundation.

The Like A Prayer hitmaker will mark the age milestone on 16 August, and to celebrate her big day, she is calling on fans to give what they can to her charity to help disadvantaged kids in the African nation.

She has teamed up with Facebook officials to launch the new campaign, backed by bosses at global payments company Ripple, who will match all donations received by 31 August.

"I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home," Madonna writes in a statement issued to The Associated Press.

"For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most. Every dollar raised will go directly to meals, schools, uniforms and health care. I want to come together with my friends, fans and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved".

Malawi holds a special place in Madonna's heart - four of her six children were adopted from the country, where the singer has been focusing her philanthropic efforts since the launch of her Raising Malawi non-profit organisation in 2006.

The superstar and her family recently returned to the nation to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Mercy James Centre for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, the Blantyre hospital wing she opened in her 12-year-old daughter's name last summer (Jul17).
